The farm and countryside around the village of Claydon with Clattercote supports a wide variety of wildlife including migrant and local birds and various birds of prey. We also have a host of insects – beetles, moths, bees and butterflies. Our resident mammals include shrews, bats, rabbits, badgers, hares, foxes and hedgehogs.
The Parish Council and the parishioners are embarking on a number of environment initiatives around the village to help preserve and provide a protective home for its flora and fauna and promote biodiversity. Central to our work plan for 2024 – 2025 is the growing of biodiversity within the village. You will see on the NoticeBoard page information on our Village Planting Project.
These initiatives include a selection of 8 new trees on the village Playing Field and 500 bulbs that have been planted on the village green, raising awareness and monitoring of wildlife and the promoting of conservation.
Projects further include the promotion of insect boxes, bird houses, log piles, hedgehog runs and wild ‘flower bombs’. Projects for all the family to enjoy.
